In The Doghouse Now

Are you busy watching the Olympics?  We have the TV running just about 24 hours watching all the games.  Didn't you love that torch lighting during the Opening Ceremony?  Oh my gosh the Brits sure did it right.  The drive and commitment of these young athletes amaze me.  My husband and I were reminiscing about my youth and my astute gymnastics skills.  I was definitely not Olympic material, but I sure did have fun trying.  Now I simply have fun trying to remember how I got my body to do all those stunts when I can barely tie my shoes today.  Ha Ha

Speaking of trying to remember things brings me to my card for today.  Mo's Digital is having a Guest Design Team Call/Doghouse Challenge this week and I decided to give it a try.  Mo's images are fabulous and I love any opportunity to use them.  When I saw the challenge was for a doghouse, I put on my creative thinking cap.  I wanted  to do something fun and quirky cause I am a little bit quirky and a whole lot of fun.  OK, don't spit your coffee/wine all over your computer screen.  I really am fun, ask my dog!

I had found this elephant appropriately enough called, I Forgot in my Mo's file and my mind started racing. I struggled a bit with the card and had two different layouts until my creative-genius-collaborator, my DH, suggested I make the doghouse on the outside instead of inside of the card.  It all came together and I had to admit he was right again.  Don't you hate it when you have to admit your husband is right and you were wrong?

I colored the elephant with my Copics using greys, pinks and a bit of violet. I wanted his face to be pinker to show his embarrassment at forgetting his dear friend's birthday.  The sentiment was hand-written and hung from some string and a brad.  The balloons were cut out with a Sissix die and run though a SU embossing folder.  The glittery bling is Stickles and the button and embroidery floss was from my stash.  The corners were punched with a SU corner punch and run through the same SU embossing folder.  I free-handed the doghouse  and cut it out.

Here's the inside sentiment.  It is computer generated and I free-handed the elephant footprints.

Hope you enjoy.  If you would like to play along with Mo's, just click here and check out all the fun.  Hope to see you over there.

Happy Crafting!

Our Bug is Sweet 16

My granddaughter, Kaylee is turning 16 on July 31st.  That oh so talented Cheryl Alger (Sassy Cheryl ) introduced us to a new character last week and my Kaylee wears hers just like this sometimes.    Kaylee's nickname is Bug (short for Kaylee Bug) so I immediately knew this was the perfect image for her card. Cheryl calls her image Jeni's Lady Bug (named after my BFF, Jeni) and you can get her here.

This week over at Sassy Cheryl's, Miz Judy is seeing polka dots everywhere.  Now everyone who knows Sassy Cheryl knows that polka dots are synonymous with Sassy Cheryl creations.  I chose to do mine in bright lime green and black.  My granddaughter Ashley made that selection and I think she has a real eye for color.  Don't you?

I made an easel card because Kaylee likes to display her cards in her bedroom.  This one is a little different because the back of the easel actually has a little shelf.  I cut my ribbon and taped it to the back of the card.  Then I realized the back shows on an Easel Card so I made an extra fold to cover that up and that created a little box like shelf.  Pretty cool actually.  You could display all kinds of goodies, but I wanted this card to be clean and simple.  My Kaylee is not a fru fru type of gal.  The paper is all from my stash.  The digi is printed on my favorite coloring paper Cryogen White from The Paper Temptress.  The ribbon is from Stampin UP, flower is Recollections and the charm is a Jewelry Basics from Cousin I picked up at AC Moore.  I attached the charm with a piece of black wire and curled the ends with my pointy sticky tool from Making Memories.

The sentiments are computer generated in MS Word 2010.  They are my first solo attempt after Jeni helped me figure out how to create Circular Word Art in MS Word 2010.  Here's a close-up for your to critique.

That's about it for this post.  I sure am proud to have made 3 posts this week.  Wonder if I can do that again next week.  Nah, probably not, but check back with me just to see.  Thanks for popping in and Happy Crafting!

Show Me Thursday time at Sassy Cheryl's

See what I did when I couldn't breathe!  Just kidding of course but I had to sit still and that is hard for me so I started playing with some of my yarn stash.  I made my 3 grandaughters some little crocheted hats.  I made each of them a white hat..  I laid one flat so you could see the circular stitching from the top view.

They all now want black ones,  but since I am better now, I can't stay away from my craft table long enough to crochet.  Maybe this fall I will do some when the new season of Vampire Diaries starts.

I'm off to post this on Sassy Cheryl's SMT blog.   It is hard to believe it is #83.  Seems like she just started that blog.  I haven't played there in awhile and want to see what everyone else has been up to.  Why not join me and post a pic of what you have been up to?

Happy Birthday My Sweet Kahuna

Hello again.  I know the last post for my July 4th card said I was back, but it didn't work out that way.  It seemed like the ole' bronchitis had a hold of me and just wouldn't let go.  Still have a touch of something respiratory going on but living in Coastal South Carolina, everyone does.

I actually have been quite busy, but can't show you everything just yet.  It is a surprise for my DGD's Sweet 16 Birthday.  I don't want to post it until I give the gift to her, but check back.  I can tell you it is a scrapbook that I make for all of my Grans when they turn 16.  I started it with my first and now they all expect it.  Jealous little buggers aren't they.  Ha Ha.

My post today is a  darling new image I found over at Mo's Digital Pencil called Gloria At The Pool. She looks just like me, I promise.  I colored her up with my Copic's,  fussy-cut her out and  glued her to the top of a black box made from card stock.  The little dog on the tag is as DeNami Design stamp.  You know I would include my little Bonnie on her Daddy's box, didn't you.  The box is very plain but this is for my DH's birthday and he doesn't like all the frills and fru-fru's, but we tucked lots of love inside.   It is filled with handwritten Birthday wishes and special notes from his family.

The sentiment tag was created on the computer by my dear friend Jeni of Flip Flop Creations.  She, being the sweet doll-baby she is, came over after work on Saturday to help me figure out how to do circular text in MS Word 2010.  I updated my computer a few months back and could not, for the life of me figure out how to do what I easily did with my 2003 version. Well we tried this and that and finally found a tutorial that would work.  Guess what?  Yep, simple and easy if you know where to look.   Thanks sooooooo much Jeni.

Hope this post finds you all happy and doing well.  I have been neglecting my blogging buddies, but promise to get around to all of you this week.  Take care and thanks for popping in to see what I have been up to.

Happy Birthday America and THANK-YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE SERVED

Hello world!  I am alive and breathing here in hot South Carolina.  Did you even notice that I have been gone?  Now I want to hear a big Aww Poor Baby now for poor little Linda.  I have been so very sick with a  Respiratory Virus that turned into a case of Bronchitis and I have been blissfully (not) out of my mind for a couple of weeks.  I am still really short of breath and on oxygen and a bunch of other things but I think I will live ha ha.  Enough whining and complaining for now, onto my card.

I taught this card a couple of weeks ago at my card club Inky Digits and never got to post it.  I wanted to make sure to say Happy Birthday to my wonderful country and a mahoosive big THANKS to all those who have served in the military to protect our Constitution.

Short post but all the papers are from Aww Shucks Scrapbook store and the manufacturer is Reminisce.  The card I saw in the July Card Maker magazine..  It was a design submitted by Carol King.  This is my take on her design.  The America license plate is from a post last year at TLC.

Not linking up to any challenges at this time.  Be back later to do that.

Back to bed and concentrating on breathing and not coughing myself silly.

Hugs, Linda
