The Sassy Gals Are Splashing This Week

It's a Wobble Mount!
Doesn't Charlie look cute floating down the lazy river.  I just love those little freckles and specks of sweat on her cheeks.  Cheryl covers all the details in her sketches doesn't she?  You can get Charlie for yourself by clicking here.

I wanted to show a little movement since she was floating so I popped her on a "Wobble".  A slight mishap ocurred when a  turtle came along and gave her foot a bit of a spin.  Sorry Charlie, I bet your tummy doesn't feel too good after taking that spin.   I did give her a cold glass of lemonade.  ( I really wanted to give her a margarita but Cheryl got so upset with me when I threathened to title Maddie's book in my last card Shades of Gray.  I decided not to tempt fate and anger the boss so I  stuck with lemonade.)k c

Wait til you see what the DT has in store for you this week.  I tell you, those girls can color.  WOW!  Click right here and you will be popped over to Sassy Cheryl's and you can check things out for yourself.  Hope you will find some crafting time for yourself and enter our challenge this week.  We love seeing all of your creations each week.  They inspire me to try different things too.

Happy Labor Day to all of you in the US.  Labor Day signifies the end of summer.  A time for cookouts and beach trips.  Fall and spring are my favorite beach times.  Most of the tourists have gone home and I get to sit out there, smell the salt air and read my books and have my beach almost to myself.  Life is Good!

Turtle's Cove

Well I am making a new craft space for myself using my Mom's dining room furniture.  This room used to be my dining room, but 18 months ago my Mom moved in with us.  We moved our dining room furniture into the kitchen to make room for her hospital bed. Since we no longer need the space for her hospital bed  we decided to make this room my new scrap area.

We have enjoyed having our dining room furniture in the kitchen and the style worked perfectly.  Now that we no longer have a hospital bed we decided to move Momma's dining room set into the space and make it a craft room for me.  I have been working from a small corner in the living room and I am now in awe of how much additional space I will have.  I bet it won't take me long to fill it up.  My DSIL said the new furniture would NEVER hold all of my stuff.  He underestimates the resourcefulness of this crafter.  There is nothing a crafter can't do to make room for their treasures!

I haven't played in Sassy Cheryls' Show Me Thursday Challenge in a long time, so I am looking forward to posting the initial pictures  of Turtle's Cove.  Jeni and I already have a Coffee and Pastries Craft day booked for September.  Jeni, Kim, Jan and I will definitely give it a proper christening!

Snail Mail For Max - Hope It's Handmade

That Sassy Pat is the Hostess over at Sassy Cheryl's this week.   She wants to see some Birthday Cards.  I for one know that I cannot get enough of them built up in my stash.  Boy cards are always needed so I selected this image of Snail Mail For Max as my subject this week.  Someone has mailed Max a package and a letter.  Do I see a little heart on that letter?  I wonder if it smells like perfume?  Hmmmm, what does little Max have going on in his life?

Snail Mail for Max comes with this sentiment and a couple more.  There is even a stamp with hearts all over it.  You can pick this up for yourself in Sassy Cheryl's store by clicking here.  You could also get it free for yourself if you win the challenge this week.  All you have to do is use a design by Cheryl Alger and make it into a birthday something.  It could be a card, tag, whatever.  Just be sure and use a digi from Cheryl Alger , enter it here and the Random Thingee may choose you as winner.  Winner gets 2 free images from the Sassy Cheryl Store.

Did fate make me select this image this week? I chose this image of a mailbox and made the card last week. then Sunday morning we woke up to discover that  someone had smashed our mail box. We had to buy a new one and my Granddaughter and I installed it today in the rain.  We live on the main street in our subdivision and Saturday night someone drove down my street and took a baseball bat to the mailboxes on my side of the street.  My husband said he was going to get a 410 shotgun and some rock salt pellets.  He plans on shooting them right in the ------.  He said it won't kill them, but they won't be sitting for a long time.  LOL

Well hop on over to the Sassy Cheryl website and check out the other creations my design team sistahs have made this week.  I just love seeing the talent in these lovely ladies.  Every week it gets better and better.

Have a good one and make sure crafting is built into your schedule this week.

Reading - Maddie and Momma Style

Inside View

Our Sassy Cathy is our hostess this week and she chalenged us to do a black and white "photo-look " card.  Having the colors predetermined should have made it easier for me, but.......  Forget about it, there is too much color in my world for this to be easy.  But it was a real learning experience.  I am still trying to develop my "vintage" technique and black and white works perfectly with a vintage style.

My cards are usually pretty simple but I tried adding everything except the kitchen sink to this one.  I was trying to emulate the style that I have seen so many talented crafters use.  I used Sassy Cheryl's new image "A Good Read-Maddie". Cheryls' creations are so full of nostalgia that they work perfectly with the vintage style.  If you would like to add Maddie to your personal collection, click  here.

I chose this digi and made this card early in the week last week before my whole world turned upside down. Thursday morning, my beautiful, precious Mother passed in her sleep. I have been so out of it I considered not participating this week, but I had made the card with my Momma and so I thought it may be a little tribute to her.  She loved little Miss Maddie in that hat reading her book.  The digi reminded me of one of my favorite pictures of my Mom. My dear Mother loved to read.  She has a whole room filled with books and bookshelves that I now have the daunting task of sorting and donating to the library.  I estimate between 200 and 500 books.

I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures of my Momma with you.  I called this Southern Lady.  Doesn't she look like she just stepped out of a Southern novel?  We were all at the beach house on vacation and My Mom wanted to sit outside on the porch to read.  So my macho men in the family.  Picked up a rocking chair and put it outside on the deck.  She could get sun, hear and smell the ocean and enjoy her read.  Please note the "redneck ottoman"  They gave her her cup of coffee and a paper plate of Hershey's Kisses and she was happy as can be.  When the sun got too much for her they hung up a sheet aka "redneck" sun shade from the porch roof so she wouldn't have to come inside.  Leave it to the chivalrous men in our lives to do what they can to make their ladies happy and comfortable.   I am sure all real estate values dropped in Garden City after that visit.   Ha Ha.
I will try to get by to visit you this week.  In the mean time pop over to see what the other Sassettes have created to inspire you this week.  I am very blessed to be a part of this team.  They have sent much support and many hugs to me this past few days.  This design team is  a very loving, supportive and slightly insane group of ladies.  Be sure and pop by their blogs and leave them some love too.

Trick or Treat Sassy Style

Frankie From Frankie and Friends Set

Funky Bat and Moon From Frankie and Friends Set

The Good Little Witch

Witches Broom  From The Happy Witch Set
Good Morning all you lovely people out there.  I have decided it is time for a bit of magic, spells and candy.  Our Sassy Cheryl Challenge this week is anything but a box and here's my take on it.  I wanted each bag to be a little different so I dug into my Sassy Cheryl file and  picked out3 of my favorite wishes and then picked out a couple of friends from Funky and Friends for the last 2.  5 Bags, 5 Grans= HaPPy HaLLowEEn in the Compton family.

I colored the digis up with Copics and then fussy cut them out.   Graphic 45's Steampunk Spells 8x8 paper pad has these rectangles alredy for you to cut out.  I glued each digi to a rectangle and punched a hole for the ribbon to go through.  Easy peasy both sides of the rectangle are already decorated.  I filled cello envelopes with some assorted chocolates and attaced them to the folded topper.

The topper was made by folding the card stock in halfand using a gooey drippy MS edge punch.  The batty fence was made by using another MS punch.  I punched out the black fence and glued it onto the topper.   Finished it off with some thick gorgeous ribbon from SU threaded though 2 punched holes and tied into a knot.

Fast and easy, but they look like they took hours to make.  Exactly what you need when you have to make multiples.  One step accomplished for my Halloween boxes I send to my children and grandchildren

Now's your turn to pop over and see all the "Not A Card" creations the rest of the sassy gals made for you.
I saw some pretty fabulous projects over there.  Those gals amaze me week after week.  Teams those gals up with Cheryl's fabulous digi friends and you get perfection everytime.  I love 'em!

Play Time

Twinkling H2O  Desk

Twinkling H2O  on stamps, paint brush leaves and ink stamped butterfly and swirls

Twinkling H20 Detail Stamp Experiment

Twinkling H2O with Glimmer Mist Over and Distress Ink Stamping

I felt like having some play time Friday night and these are the results.  I recently took Cheryl Mezxetti's Mixed Media Class.  I bought some Twinkling H2O paints and had not played with them.  I watched some You Tube videos and then started to play.
In these examples I am using Strathmore Water Color paper.

Example 1:  I used a paint brush to paint  a stamp with H2Os.  These stamps have a thicker surface and the design of the stamp shows.  I used a paint brush and some colored pencils to define the leaves and stems which I didn't stamp clearly.  The blue is a combination of H2O, Brilliance Sky Blue ink, Distress Inks in Shaded Lilac and Lemonade.  I stamped over in black with a detailed butterfly stamps.

Example 2:  H2Os on  lacy detail stamps.  The fine lines in the stamp are not clearly defined.  In hindsight, maybe I had to much paint on the stamp, or too much water.  I tried cutting it down and using a corner punch and popped a couple of pearls on there.  I originally thought that I could salvage it for a embellishment on a card or SB page.  Now that I look at it, it could be a coaster lol.

Example 3:  I used Shaded Lilac Distress Ink  and stamped the purple flowers.  I decided to use the Distress Inks because of the uneven way the ink lays on the paper.  I really liked my flowers but then tried to stamp some Lemonade flowers and I didn't like that at all.  To try to disguise that, I too a paint brush and painted some yellow here and there.  I was having fun with the brush, so I tried it with green, pink and  blue H2Os.I used a sponge dauber and sponged gold ink on it too.

The top photo has a couple of round discs showing.  That was another experiment .  I took a mesh background stamp and stamped a white piece of paper.  I punched out circles and then I flipped it over and punched out scalloped circles.  I plan on popping a button in the center of these to use in the future as embellishments.  I didn't realize they were showing in the picture.  Sorry about the glare on this pic.  I tried to take one without it, but it just wasn't happening.

So all in all I don't like any of them, but I do like bits of each.  I had a great time just playing and trying out different things.  I now have a better feel for the Twinkling H2Os.  I am still in love with the mica in the paint making it twinkle.   Great learning time and the most important thing was I had fun.  I never knew there was a Monet hiding deep, very very deep, inside of me.

Better Not Pout

Hello chickadees, I am back with another Sassy Cheryl digi.  This one is for Deep Ocean Challenges and Sassy Cheryl is sponsoring this week.  I popped over to check out the blog and was amazed at the talent I saw.  Yeah a new blog to snoop at and you know how I love to snoop.  Their challenge this week is Christmas in July.  I am now their newest follower.

I think I have used this darling Santa a gazillion times since buying it but I am still in love with it.  This time I colored it up a bit with my Copics.  I added some chunky glitter (MS) to the fur on the hat and fussy cut the image out.  I glued the image to the holly oval that is a design on the Bo Bunny paper.  The flowers  and the trinket are from the same collection.  I got a bit carried away with the chunky glitter and  glittered the edges of the flowers too.  I distressed the edges, added some ribbon and a Petalloo pin, copper Nail Heads, and gold border stickers from Elizabeth Crafts to the edges for a finishing touch.

If you would like a new, or if you are already familiar with Deep Ocean Challenges pop over here.  If you post a Christmas creation in their 2 week challenge you could be the winner of some fabulous Sassy Cheryl Digis.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas where there is Peace on Earth and lots and lots and lots of presents under the tree with my name on all of  them.  :)
